Much like a kid who has built their first birdhouse, you probably felt a certain amount of pride on the final step of assembly and want to do everything you can to make your Ready to Assemble (RTA) Furniture last. Your new item is a wonderful blend of quality and affordability, but it also has a good deal of your time and effort in each corner and camlock and knowing how to properly take care of it will extend its life-and the amount of time before your next afternoon spent building a replacement!
Typically, where we build a piece of furniture is not where it will stay. Sometimes that means a move of only a few inches closer to the wall, and sometimes that’s across the room, the home, or the threshold! The following is a list of helpful tips to move your furniture safely:
- Remove all objects. If applicable, pull out drawers to lighten the load, box up items on shelves and make sure there is a clear path to your destination.
- Phone a friend. Never attempt to move RTA furniture by single-handedly dragging, pushing or shifting it. Team lifting is essential in order to maintain the structural integrity of the item.
- Protect corners and doorways. If the new location for your furniture is not in the same room, consider wrapping it to avoid marring walls or door jambs, as well as safeguarding the finish of your furniture.
- Check your camlocks and screws. Once in its new location, retighten all fasteners before reinserting drawers or shelves.
