We've included a power cord long enough to reach most outlets (6 feet!). Electric fireplaces are essentially very pretty space heaters. They draw a large amount of power in order to generate heat and the use of extension cords or surge protectors can overload the circuit, trip the breaker or blow the fuse, damaging the fireplace beyond repair. There is a laundry list of high-power items in your home that just shouldn’t be paired with an extension cord or surge protector. Some are obvious, such as refrigerators or microwaves, and some less so: coffee pots, toasters, and hair care appliances. A good rule of thumb would be that if the purpose of an item is to generate heat, it should not be paired with any sort of power cord.
